Mabrok Lab

The team

The lab is small on purpose. Everyone here owns a problem rather than a task, and the work sits at the same junction: machine learning doing the deciding, and control theory answering whether the thing that decides will hold.

Yalda Zafari

Yalda Zafari

Research AssistantM.Sc. Biomedical Engineering

Yalda works on trustworthy deep learning for healthcare, where being accurate is only half of what a diagnostic model has to be. Her interest is in models a clinician can interrogate rather than only trust.

Working onTrustworthy deep learning for medical image analysis.

Shahed Soluman

Shahed Soluman

Research AssistantB.Sc. Computer Engineering

Shahed comes to the lab from computer engineering and machine learning. She works on foundation models in diagnostics, and on the harder question of what they can and cannot be relied on to do in a clinic.

Working onFoundation models for medical diagnostics.

Mohammed Bashir

Mohammed Bashir

Research AssistantB.Sc. Electrical Engineering

Mohammed comes to the lab from electrical engineering and control systems, and brings state-space thinking to a problem usually handed to deep learning alone. The combination is the point rather than the decoration.

Working onA stroke source identification pipeline, using deep learning and state-space models.

Laith Al-Jayatwa

Laith Al-Jayatwa

Masters StudentM.Sc. Materials Science

Laith works where materials science meets machine learning, on making additive manufacturing produce parts that can be relied on. A printed part that fails in service is a materials problem and a detection problem at once.

Working onMachine learning for anomaly detection in 3D printed objects.

Working with the lab

The department does not run a PhD programme, so the lab grows through research assistants, and I take one on when I have the funding for the position. That means openings appear when a grant does, rather than on a calendar. I also supervise MSc students at Qatar University.

Write to me anyway, if you want to work on AI for healthcare, agentic systems, control theory or robotics. A CV and a short note about what you want to work on is much easier to answer well than a general enquiry, and it means I know who to write to when a position does open.
