Mohamed A. Mabrok, Ph.D.

I am an Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics at Qatar University, where I teach and do research at the intersection of mathematics, control theory and artificial intelligence.

My path in mathematics began at Suez Canal University in Egypt, continued through a research masters at the University of Queensland, and led to a Ph.D. at the University of New South Wales in Australia, where I worked with Professor Ian Petersen on negative imaginary systems theory and its applications to flexible structures and nano-positioning.

Over the past fifteen years the research has moved from classical robust control and dynamical systems into artificial intelligence: deep learning for healthcare, including stroke diagnosis and breast cancer detection, robotics perception, AI in education, and most recently agentic AI, where a model plans and acts rather than only answering. The earlier work has not been left behind. An agent that acts in the world is a control problem wearing new clothes, and the mathematics travels better than the labels suggest.

I care a great deal about teaching, and believe technology can change how mathematics is learned rather than only how it is delivered. The course platform is the argument for that, built and funded personally, and used with real classes before any part of it was made general.
